Homemade Blueberry Ginger Lemonade

This homemade blueberry ginger lemonade is so easy to make and its refreshing taste is addictive! It's sweet and tart with a zing of ginger which can be optional, but I love its added flavor. Serve the lemonade over plenty of ice on its own, or add a shot of chilled vodka or tequila for a tasty cocktail!
Review from Molly @ Pinterest5 STARS: I gave it a try and it's really good! I doubled the recipe and used honey to replace only a small amount of the sugar. I also used frozen blueberries and didn't strain them. I didn't use ginger this time.

Ingredients

  • ½ cup granulated sugar
  • 1- inch piece fresh ginger thinly sliced
  • 1 cup fresh blueberries plus more for garnish
  • 1 cup fresh lemon juice about 4 to 5 lemons
  • Fresh mint for garnish
  • Lemon slices for garnish

Instructions

  • In a medium saucepan, combine 2 cups water with the sugar and ginger. Cook over medium heat, whisking, until the sugar has dissolved. Stir in blueberries and cook, stirring often, until the blueberries have broken down, about 5 minutes. Remove the pan from the heat.
  • Strain the blueberry mixture through a fine sieve into a bowl and let cool completely.
  • Combine the blueberry syrup with the lemon juice in a pitcher and chill. Serve over plenty of ice gand garnish with some fresh mint, lemon slice, and fresh berries..

Notes

You can substitute other sweeteners for the sugar, such as maple syrup, honey, or agave nectar. Start with ⅓ cup and taste it, adding more if desired.
